Norman Park

QLD 4170

Norman Park is a suburb of Brisbane, located 4km from the CBD. First settlers began arriving in the area in 1853. It was a largely rural area until following World War II when rapid development occurred with the construction of public housing.

Norman Park probably got its name from an early estate in the area. The estate’s name is believed to have come from nearby Norman Creek and the modern-day Governor of Queensland Henry Wylie Norman.

It is a quiet neighbourhood with tree-lined streets, perfect for families and young people who work in the city but prefer a suburban vibe. It offers both the lifestyle and the location of a more peaceful environment with beautiful parklands and reserves.

This mostly residential suburb is bordered by East Brisbane, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Morningside and Hawthorne.

LEISURE AND SHOPPING

The many parks located within the suburb offer plenty of facilities for families, children and young adults, such as playgrounds and picnic shelters/areas. C.P. Bottomley Park offers a sports field and cricket facility. Donaldson Street Park has a cultural heritage site (Norman Park Memorial Garden), a community facility (Norman Park Services Bowls Club and wetlands. Vectis Street Park features a bubbler/tap/dog bowl, dog off leash area and a shared pathway.

Cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. Other food outlet options and the Hawthorne Cinema are also easily accessible.

Residents can go on shopping trips at Merthyr Village Shopping Centre and Foodworks Norman Park.
