Carina is a Brisbane suburb, located 7 km from the CBD.
The Aboriginal tribe Murris, most likely the Jagera, was the original inhabitants of the area. The suburb’s name was derived from a property on Creek Road built in the 1850s. The estate was owned by Ebenezer Thorne, who named it after his daughter, Kate Carina.
Carina is mostly a residential suburb, leafy with plenty of parks and recreational facilities, and close to schools, cafes, restaurants and shops. It offers an easy link to the Gateway Motorway if you are going to the airport, the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast. It is close to the city, but has a more relaxed and peaceful vibe, making it ideal for established or growing families. The houses are a mix of Queenslander’s, post-war homes and architect designed townhouses.
Its neighbouring suburbs are Carindale, Carina Heights, Cannon Hill and Camp Hill.
LEISURE AND SHOPPING
Some of the parks and reserves located within in suburb include Belmont Recreation Reserve, Ian Page Park (formerly Springvale Place Park), Joe Bradfield Centre Park, Preston Road Park (Turwan) and Seven Hills Bushland Reserve.
The Joe Bradfield Centre Park is home to the Carina Library, Carina Senior Citizens Club, Our Place Carina Outside School Hours Care, as well as a playground and facilities for various sports.
Preston Road Park offers a canoe ramp, picnic facilities, dog off-leash area, fitness station, multi-use court, picnic area, and wood and electric barbeques, playground, skate facility and more. The Clem Jones Centre (a large sporting complex), and a Brisbane City Council bus depot are both situated on Creek Road. In addition, the Carina Tigers Rugby League Football Club calls the suburb home.
Aside from the varied local shop and the Carina North Shopping Centre, the suburb is just 5 minutes away from Westfield Carindale and 2 minutes from the Cannon Hill Shopping Complex.
