Tanah Merah is a suburb in Logan City, located 28 km from the City of Brisbane. The name is an Indonesian word meaning “red soil”. This soil is abundant throughout the area. The suburb is bordered by the Pacific Motorway and is divided by the Logan Motorway.
There is a territory and town by the name of Tanah Merah in the state of Kelantan in northeast Malaysia and a place by the same name in Singapore.
The suburb was named by the McBride family, which migrated to Brisbane from Penang, Malaysia after World War II.
